Sunkiss

When you walk by
The sun hides behind the moon,
Urging her to introduce him.

Your smile makes the sun blush.
He gets embarrassed
So he tiptoes over the horizon,
Stealing one last stare
Before setting.

You make boys
Of great men.

We Be

We be early mornings still awake
Cafesito en el campo
Media noche que traga rio
Liberated dreams of enslaved people

We be deep
Inundated in consciousness
Joy in humility
We be subtle rebellions

1 on 1 off the clock
After school at the park
No where to go
We be home.

Genius In Progress

Encourage art you like,

Encourage art you don't like.

Your words may sow the reaping of future genius.

Thieves in the Night (inspired by Mos and Kweli’s orginal track)

They say war on terror/
Cause Islamic furor/
But follow the set up/
Won’t look in the mirror/
America, comfy in their slouch/
Watching Buffy on the couch/
While the kids is foaming at the mouth/
Question: who watches the watchmen?/
When government is evil like Dr. Robotnik/

Making man to machine/
Heartless, putting bullets into kids/
Military service is a bid/
Follow the scheme/
Wonder if they hear kids cry in their dreams/
Cabal of chicanery calumny/
Bilking the public/
Long as we milking we love it/

So what is a brother to do?/
When real Hip-Hop is a troubling brew/
Now that is a troubling view/
When you can’t speak to what’s troubling you/
War on terror killed the brother in you/
And Katrina killed a mother or 2/
Society is losing a screw/
But it’s all good as long as it’s on YouTube
And amusing to view/

Definitions (I’m not gonna front, I still forget what these words mean from time to time):
Cabal-group of plotters
Chicanery-trickery
Calumny-slander
Bilking-to cheat

Time on the Block

Drivebys,

Quienceneras,

And Block parties.

Hindsight-

Are all blurred in my mind’s eye.

They’re all the same.

I have seen kids

                           Become teens,

                                                   Become thugs.

Seen fights

                           Become beef,

                                                   Become slugs.

“If you look long enough into the abyss,

It looks back at you.”

I ask myself indeed,

Am I watching the block

Or is the block watching me?
